Comics, designs, digital paintings and more...
LAIKA is a close look at Laika the dog who was sent into space in the 1950s by the USSR. My comic explores a version of her character in which she did not die, but evolved to be more human – she was literally anthropomorphised, much like the cold war propaganda anthropomorphised her. In this short story, she comes to terms with her trauma of the mission and her feelings towards Earth.
I have recently self-published this comic and printed it in bulk.
A personal project combining my interests of animals and history. Nipper (AKA, the HMV dog) died in Kingston Upon Thames where I studied, so I decided to show him enjoying newer musical inventions past his time period of the gramophone.
My entry for Penguin's cover awards, for 'Diary of a Young Naturalist'. The book itself spoke to me, as a fellow autistic nature lover just like author Dara McAnulty. I read the book thoroughly and experimented with designs before creating this cover based on a specific scene in the book.
A design inspired by my experiences of living both in the city and the country, and how the foxes vary depending on where they live. I studied the personalities and appearances of both to create this illustration.
Digital painting is a style that takes advantage of the range of digital brushes available, using techniques similar to traditional painting. I tend to work more realistically in terms of textures and lighting, but keep my strong stylisation.
